Peddling as Fast As I Can

November 14, 2013

Howdy friends! Just wanted to say hello and let you know that I’m still here.

I’ve been “off the grid” now for about two months while I’ve been finishing my fourth book. No Facebook, no Twitter, hardly answering my emails. When friends are able to lure me out of my hole with promises of coffee and madeleine cookies, I’m glassy-eyed and slow to respond to complex questions such as, “How have you been lately?”

The truth is, I’m confounded by how hard it is for me to finish anything, especially a novel. It should be easy at this point, I tell myself. I mean, I know how the story will end. (Spoiler alert: they fall in love!)

But it’s a long, strange journey from the vague, happy notion of the characters riding off in the sunset together, to the actual completion of a book that makes some kind of sense and isn’t full of spellig errrs (those last two were intentional). The road writers travel is full of neglected family, unanswered messages and, in my case, a very offended cat who thinks that my lap is her property, not to be usurped by anything as lowly as a computer. (More on the cat in another post.)

One of these days I will get my act together, and will no longer need to eat some parts of my life to feed others. But for the time being, let me extend apologies to everyone I’ve ignored, offended, and almost ridden over because I wasn’t looking where I was going. I’m darn lucky to be surrounded by so many understanding, loving and supportive people!

Thank you all, and I’m looking forward to rejoining the human race sometime in the very near future.

So how has everyone been?
