A_Christmas_Carol_06

Every year I try to re-read A Christmas Carol (which is my very favorite book), and I am always struck by the following passage, after Scrooge has undergone his famous transformation:

“Some people laughed to see the alteration in him, but he let them laugh, and little heeded them; for he was wise enough to know that nothing ever happened on this globe, for good, at which some people did not have their fill of laughter in the outset; and knowing that such as these would be blind anyway, he thought it quite as well that they should wrinkle up their eyes in grins, as have the malady in less attractive forms.” – Charles Dickens

It’s so inspiring! Nothing good ever happens on the globe at which some people do not have their fill of laughter at the outset. I try to keep that in mind whenever I am worried about making positive changes in my life. If people want to laugh, let them: they might just as well wrinkle up their eyes in grins as have the malady in a less attractive form. Feels like a wonderful attitude to carry into the new year.

Whether or not you celebrate Christmas, I hope that your December 25th was bright and lovely. Wishing you the happiest of days as we close out 2018 and move forward into 2019! ♥
