Love stories about old houses and family secrets.

Seeing as how my latest novel, The Book of Forgotten Angels, is releasing today, I thought it might be fun to explore a little bit about the original novel, which inspired Mae and Levi’s quest through Angel River.

The original Book of Forgotten Angels was written by Browning Weidler in 1899. Very little is known about Weidler, except that he’s a native son of Angel River and achieved some success but little fame as a writer. He is the author of several novels and short stories. In addition to Angels, his other books include The Sound of Silver, a fictionalized account of a real silver heist, and Lucky Penny, about an impoverished orphan who becomes the toast of high society in pre-Civil War Richmond, Virginia.

In 2007, Levi Morales comes to Angel River looking for a first edition of Weidler’s Book of Forgotten Angels. At that time, the Antiquarian Booksellers Catalog lists only six known first editions, one of which was bought by another native son of Angel River, a man named Abel Stein. Mr. Stein has since passed away, so Levi reaches out to the woman who is now living in Stein’s house: Mae Wallace, owner of the Angel River Café. Mae joins Levi in his search, and the two of them embark on an unexpected journey through the myths and history of Angel River.

The original Book of Forgotten Angels is the tale of a widowed writer, Jonathan Strick, who is commissioned to write a story about angels as a Christmas gift to the wife of a wealthy man. The only problem is that Jonathan has long since stopped believing in angels. It’s up to his daughter, little Darla Louise, to help Jonathan find evidence of heavenly beings in a grim, cold world.

All of this Mae learns as she and Levi look for the first edition. And you can read about their quest today, because The Book of Forgotten Angels is now available on Kindle and in paperback! It’s funny, I love all my books, but there is a very special place in my heart for this one. I hope, hope, hope that you come to love it as much as I do.

Hugs and Happy Reading,

Misha

❤️❤️❤️

P.S. Fact Check: All of these facts are fictional, but I hope you enjoyed them anyway! Browning Weidler’s “work” will be featured in upcoming Angel River novels, and you’ll be hearing about those shortly!

In the meantime, I just created a page on this website devoted entirely to Angel River. It’s not very exciting at the moment, but I have big plans for it! I hope you’ll check it out and let me know what you think.
